What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences and understand how you use it.
What cookies does Versionmess use?
Essential (always active)
Versionmess uses localStorage to remember your preferences:
- Theme preference — whether you chose light or dark mode
- Tracked apps — which tools you selected to follow
- Release cache — cached release data to reduce API calls
This is browser storage that stays on your device. It is never sent to any server and is strictly necessary for the site to function.
Analytics (opt-in only)
If you accept analytics cookies, Versionmess uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. GA4 uses the following cookies:
_ga— Distinguishes unique users (expires: 2 years)_ga_*— Maintains session state (expires: 2 years)
GA4 collects anonymous usage data such as pages visited, time spent, and general geographic region. It does not collect personally identifiable information.
Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
GA4 is not loaded until you explicitly click "Accept" in the cookie consent banner.
How to manage your consent
When you first visit Versionmess, a cookie consent banner appears at the bottom of the page. You can choose to accept or reject analytics cookies.
Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage. To change it:
- Clear your browser's localStorage for this site, or
- Use your browser's developer tools to delete the
versionmess:cookie-consentkey
After clearing, the consent banner will appear again on your next visit.
Third-party services
Versionmess uses the following third-party services:
- Google Analytics — analytics (only with your consent)
- GitHub API — to fetch release data for tracked tools (no cookies involved)
