What data we collect
Data you provide
Versionmess is a client-side application. Your preferences (tracked apps, theme) are stored entirely in your browser's localStorage and are never transmitted to any server.
Analytics data (with consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) collects:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- General geographic region (country/city level, derived from IP)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- How you arrived at the site (referral source)
GA4 does not collect: your name, email, exact address, or any personally identifiable information. IP addresses are anonymized.
GitHub API data
When you track tools with live release feeds, Versionmess fetches public release data from the GitHub API. This is an anonymous API call — no authentication or personal data is involved.
Legal basis for processing
We process your data under the following legal bases:
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for analytics cookies and data sent to Google Analytics
- Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — for strictly necessary functionality (theme preference, tracked apps) which does not require consent
Third-party data recipients
Your analytics data is processed by:
- Google LLC — as data processor for Google Analytics. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Data retention
- localStorage data (your preferences) — stored until you clear your browser data
- Google Analytics data — retained for up to 14 months (configurable by the site owner)
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time (clear your browser's localStorage for this site, or use the cookie settings)
- Lodge a complaint — file a complaint with your local data protection authority
International data transfers
Analytics data may be transferred to and processed in the United States by Google LLC. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which provides adequate safeguards for international transfers.
Children's privacy
Versionmess is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
